Katie is from Seal Beach, CA. She attended Cal State Long Beach, where she received her BA in education. Katie went on to nursing school, specializing in L& D along with psychology. She worked for many years as a Unit Supervisor at Fairview Developmental Center in Costa Mesa. While at FDC, she became the lead instructor for MAB training, along with writing and implementing IEP plans with fellow medical staff.
Her husband recently retired from 26 years with the United States Army. His service provided their family an opportunity to live throughout the country. While stationed in Minnesota, Katie went back to school to receive her dual degree in psychology. Upon her husband's retirement, her family moved back to Southern California with their two children.
Katie began teaching her children when she started A Thinking Place, Inc. four years ago. Katie is currently in her Master's Program for Physics, and volunteers as a nurse with the California Health Corps.
Katie is the Lead science instructor for Pathway school in Laguna Beach.
For the past five years, she has taught High-school A-G ( Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science) at the middle school level she teaches ( Earth, Life, and Physical science). Teaching children to follow their curiosity within the science realm is Katie's lifelong pursuit.
