Course Description

This college preparatory course in World Literature will give a broad overview of the writings of European and non-Western countries, the eras that gave rise to the literature, and the ways in which cultural contexts influence our interpretations of literature. The class will focus on literary analysis with a strong reading component. Differing worldviews will be studied and discussed from a Christian perspective. We will be utilizing primary works, including The Iliad, The Book of Esther, Oedipus Rex, The Tempest, A Doll's House, and The Metamorphosis, as well as a rich variety of short stories and poetry, from ancient to modern times. Assignments will include analytical and expository essays, as well as creative and technical writing projects. Class time will encourage active discussion and participation.  Students are expected to complete approximately three to four hours of home assignments each week, with age-appropriate reading and responses.
NOTE: This class has UC a-g approval from iLead, and meets all California standards, but is NOT eligible for charter funding, due to our Christian worldview.
