Volleyball TEAMS: ILA will once again field several volleyball TEAMS to play in the home school league in southern California. Last fall, we fielded 3 teams that played a regular games schedule through Sept and Oct and played in a home school tournament the last Saturday in October. We will practice 2 days a week, Monday & Wednesday, immediately after school 3:45-5:15. Teams will be organized by age and skill level. There are multiple age divisions teams can play in with the home school league: Varsity, JV, Freshman, and possibly a younger division for late elementary through 7th grade. Games will be played on Saturdays in Tustin with game days 2-3 Saturdays a month. There may be additional games set up in San Diego or in Corona. The season is short – games only go during September and October, so we want to maximize the opportunity to play for this short season. The season will culminate with the home school tournament in Anaheim all day on Saturday, October 31. Teams travel from northern California, San Diego, and even Arizona sometimes for this tournament.
Last fall, ILA had a Varsity girls team who played very well in the home school league, a Freshman girls team who placed 3rd in the home school tournament, and a JV boys team who won the JV boys division in the home school tournament. It was a very good season considering that most of our players were new to the sport last fall. The team is open to anyone with no prior experience required. We hope to field 3 girls teams and 2 boys teams this fall.
Costs: In addition to the team fee ($440), players will be required to join AAU as a part of the ILA club team for insurance coverage ($20). There will be entry fees for each game day – usually $10/athlete/game, and share the cost of the tournament entry fee – approximately $40 per player. They will also purchase a CUSTOM uniform shirt with their name on it for $30, and will need to get black shorts for game days. This may seem like a high cost for those who are new to the sport, but check on the cost of club teams in the area and you will see that this is a bargain! Some ILA players last year played with club teams that cost as much as $5000 for a season! My daughter played with the least expensive club in San Diego 6 years ago for $1500 and it did not include any games! That was for 2 practices a week only!
This is not a regular class, but a competitive TEAM. Your athletes will be trained hard. They will be pushed to their limits physically, mentally, and emotionally. They will get sore and will be frustrated at times. The goal is to make them into good volleyball players and good athletes, and do it in a very short time! So practices will look like all competitive sports practices – they will be pushed and worked hard! They will develop significantly and will be proud of what they accomplish. There are pictures available from last season on my website. Go to www.CaliforniaAthletics.com
and look at the tab for ILA Volleyball Team.
If your student has any desire to play on a sports team, this is the IDEAL setting. It will likely be the only sports team at ILA, and will be the best sport opportunity they will have in the home school world. If you have any questions about the team, please call or email me. We will likely start some club, non-ILA, preseason training this summer to get athletes in shape and working in their skills. Email me to get information about this.
If you would like to see pictures from last season to help you get a feel for the team, please go to www.CaliforniaAthletics.com and look for the SPORTS TEAMS Page to see pictures.
I am a vendor with all charter schools, so the class can be paid for entirely with a charter school PO. Check with your charter school for “California Athletics” and “Todd Nash”. Have the PO issued for 1 lump sum for $440 in September, or if they prefer multiple POs, have POs issued for $220 in September, and $220 in November. You can also pay for the class by check, $440 at or before the first practice. You can also check with Todd to see if he is a vendor with your school. Email if you have any questions: CalAthletics@sbcglobal.net.
