Course Description

Each one hour Chess4Kidz class by Master Chess Coach Mr. Doktorski consists of a 20-minute
lesson followed by actual battles on the chessboard between students. Mental discipline and good
sportsmanship are encouraged. Skills taught range from basic checkmates to rudimentary tactics
and strategies such as pins, forks, skewer attacks, opening traps, opening theory, pawn structure,
etc. Students examine memorable and instructive games of famous grandmasters. During
tournament games students are paired against opponents of similar strength. During the Final
Awards Ceremony all students receive a Certificate of Achievement and the winners (usually the
top four, depending on the size of the class) of the tournament receive trophies. All chess supplies
are provided.
Benefits that this program will provide to its participants:
1) helps develop mental concentration & self-discipline
2) encourages students to think before acting, to examine the consequences of one’s actions
3) teaches good sportsmanship

PS All students must already know how the pieces move when they come to the first class.
