Course Description

Spell to Write and Read-phonics:
Spell to Write and Read (SWR) is a program that believes reading naturally flows from spelling comprehension.  SWR provides students with spelling strategies and rules to help them decode words they organically encounter. A major component of the SWR program is studying and memorizing. It is a multi-sensory program that utilizes the senses as tools.  SWR has also been proven to be very successful for students with learning difficulties (including dyslexia)

Right Start Math D:
Multiplication, simple division, and fractions are the primary focus of RightStart Mathematics Level D. Students work with numbers to one million. They also work with linear and square units in both the U.S. Customary and the metric systems.  They will explore symmetry, angles, and various geometric shapes.

Growing with Grammar – Level 3
Growing with Grammar Level 3 reviews topics taught at younger levels, but adds adverbs to the parts of speech. Sentence diagramming is introduced at this level. Diagramming shows up in the first chapter, teaching diagramming of subjects and predicates, including compound subjects and compound predicates. Among other topics addressed in Grade 3 are possessive nouns, possessive and personal pronouns, subject-verb agreement, helping verbs, direct objects, punctuation of quotations, comma usage, and abbreviations. Although this is primarily a grammar course, some lessons address composition skills.  Students learn to write paragraphs, friendly letters, and thank you letters.

Cursive First:
{From the website} The Cursive First program can be used either with the SWR program or as a stand alone program of handwriting instruction. The "program" is comprised of a Teacher's Manual, Practice Sheets, and the Cursive Phonogram Card Set. ... Both numerals and the first 26 phonograms are included.

Handwriting Without Tears-manuscript-3rd grade:

{From the website} Handwriting without tears is an award-winning curriculum that offers multi sensory strategies and materials to teach pencil grip, letter formation, and the literacy skills that are needed for print and cursive handwriting. Children who master handwriting are better, more creative writers.

We will also spend time on dictation, reading and discussion of vocabulary words from our reading.
