Course Description

Introduction to Film and TV

(History of, Theory, and Practical Skills)

If the most common and captivating way we communicate is through storytelling, then the most captivating method of storytelling would be film. Stories told through the lens of a camera are able to influence not only on a individual level, but they also have the ability to affect culture as a whole. Isn’t it amazing that a well-crafted sequence of moving pictures is able to convey a message, as well as evoke a wide range of emotions from it’s audience?

The film, television, and media we consume on a daily basis are some of the most powerful tools used to shape our values and ideals. In this class, we will partake in an analysis of all forms of film, as well as study the cinematography, editing, and sound that help create great film and television.

As we view, analyze, and study these mediums through the lens of the Gospel, we will gain a better understanding of how to utilize film as a tool to effectively bring about the right kind of change. We will also apply our imaginations and creativity, in combination with hands on experience, to increase our knowledge, technical skills, media literacy and critical thinking; Skills that will set us up for success in the real world.
