Fashion Design and Sewing
- Boys and Girls with little to no sewing experience.
- Intermediate and Advanced students who have taken sewing before.
This class is for all levels Beginning to Advanced. Each student will pick projects based on their skill level.
Note to Parents: Students DO NOT need to bring any supplies or a sewing machine. Fashion camp provides all machines, tools, materials, and even stores students projects so students need only to come to class ready to learn.
Our 16-week program for Boys and Girls will teach students life skills, while instilling confidence, exercising creativity, and having a little fun. We begin by teaching machine sewing. Students will learn the basics from the beginning, including straight stitching, sewing with a seam allowance, threading, backstitching and pivoting. We’ll then do a fabric and cutting lesson, where students will learn about different types of fabrics, grain line, and how to use patterns. Next we’ll start our first projects which each student will choose based on skill level. Students will learn foundational sewing skills while completing their projects. We’ll take a break after machine sewing and learn sketching, design, and draping. We wrap up the last few weeks learning hand sewing skills.
The semester will end with a charity project where students will be working together to use their new sewing skills for the benefit of a local charity.
Projects change every semester. Students will do 1 big project and 1-2 smaller projects based on skill level.
