IEW People and Places in Our Community – Grade: 2-3
This is a gentle, beginner class to introduce students to IEW concepts while learning about places in our community and how different workers keep our community functioning well. It covers six of the nine IEW units, including retelling stories and writing from pictures.
Starting this year, there will be writing labs with grammar as part of the class to improve student’s writing. Students will usually complete one short paragraph every 1-2 weeks. (It is easy to adapt assignments up or down as necessary.) Vocabulary words are also included. Themes focus on community workers and places, which are fascinating to young children, such as pilots, firefighters, and the grocery store.
