This is a year-long course which employs a mastery-oriented approach. Students will explore the physical world and master the basic laws of physics and chemistry. Topics covered include matter and atoms, energy, order and design, forces and fields, theories and truth, measurements and units, properties and substances, force and motion, compounds and chemical reactions, sound and light, electricity, magnetism and electromagnetism. This class will be interactive and lay a strong foundation for future high school science courses. The students will be performing labs in class and learn how to write scientific lab reports.
Classes will follow a more hybrid style of learning. Students will complete the reading and homework assignments at home. Class will consist of a warm-up exercise, an overview of the chapter, and lab experiments for application.
Important class info: This class has 12 labs: students needs to have a knowledge of the metric and US Customary systems of measurements; knowledge of basic unit conversions is very helpful.
