Course Description

(Enrollment in this class includes priority enrollment in Eng. 8 Advanced the following year)
In this course, we will focus on two essential goals: developing good readers and developing good writers. My heart is to develop a love for reading in my students as they see how every story is simply a reflection of *the* greatest story ever told or written in God’s plan of redemption for all His children. Good writers are always great readers. So based on what we learn as readers, we will study and practice how to communicate our thoughts in a clear, organized, meaningful and effective literary analysis essay (which is the type of essay they will need to write for high school and college entrance exams).

The class will be organized around several units of literature. We will cover all different types of literature from science fiction, classic, fantasy and more, so students can read a variety of works and authors. Literature includes The Yearling, The Old Man and the Sea, The Time Machine, Great Expectations, and The Hobbit. Each unit covers reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, literary devices, and a writing assignment at the end. We will also incorporate an oral report, some creative writing, and various projects based on the literature we are covering.

It is a great class if you are transitioning from IEW courses or if you want to prepare your student for the types of literature classes they will encounter in high school. In this Advanced English 7 course, we will be able to dive more deeply into some of the essential concepts that make us effective writers and readers!
