Course Description

EQ (Economic Quotient) – Grade:  6-8*
This is an introductory class to the concept of economics and its uses in our society, and personal finance for Middle School. There is minimal homework each week consisting of light reading, keeping up with some economic news, and/or  light research.  Upon completion of this course, students would have a basic understanding of or exposure to:
 
o History and role of money – coins and paper
o Key Concepts of Demand, Supply, and Equilibrium
o Gross Domestic Product
o Inflation and Recession
o Federal Reserve
o Business cycle
o Federal Debt
o Economic systems:  Capitalism vs. Socialism
o Personal finance for Middle School (Dave Ramsey) -- 2nd semester

1.    Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?  By Richard J. Maybury – ISBN: 978-0942617641
2.    A Bluestocking Guide to Economics by Jane A. Williams – ISBN: 978-0942617658
3.    Foundations in Personal Finance: Middle School Edition Student Text (NOT For Homeschool version)
4.    Various articles and printouts
 
•   Tuition: $275 per semester 
•   Material Fee: $10 per year
•   $50 Non-Refundable deposit will be applied toward $10 material fee and 1st semester tuition
•   Charter school approved class – Excel, iLead, Inspire, Sage Oaks, Sky Mountain, NUA and Springs.  Charter school vendor name is Farida Hsu.  If your charter school is not listed here, please inform me.
•   Class time: 1.5 hour
•   This class accepts new students in 2nd semester to do the Personal Finance module.
